How can I vote in the Counterparty election? (Deprecated! See notes)
UPDATE: This demonstration is no longer valid! Due to a hiccup between the time this video was made, and the time of the election beginning, the procedures ...
What's up, party people. Chris DeRose here, Community Director of the Counterparty Foundation. And in this video, we're going to do things a little different. I'm not exactly answering a normal question. What I am going to do is demonstrate to you how to vote in the upcoming Counterparty elections. The elections are coming up soon and I want to make sure everybody has a pretty good understanding of what's involved.
So I'm going to get started here and show you the process start to finish based on the beta network that was setup that we've been using at the Counterparty Project. With that, let's get started. Okay, so I've already logged into my wallet and here you'll see the normal Counterwallet main screen that you should be used to if you've used Counterwallet before. On it is all of my assets and amongst those you'll notice the CPF vote token. The CPF vote token is what we'll be using here in this test voting demo. Now I'm looking at my Counterparty test voting page where it lists all of the test candidates.
You can see that they don't have real names but in the production environment where you'll be voting, they will have their real names. Now if I scroll down a little bit, I can see what the addresses are that correspond to these candidates. I'm going to select this address for candidate one and I'm going to copy that address. Now I'm going to switch back to my Counterparty wallet and I'm going to send my CPF vote tokens to that address. I think I copied the space there at the beginning so let's remove that space. Great.
I'm going to give all of my vote to that candidate. You can choose a fractional part of your holdings. You can choose half or you can choose any fraction you want. In this case, I'm giving the entire amount that I hold to candidate one. I sent the money to that candidate and that's basically it. I wait now for the next confirmation time.
And the confirmation time is over. So now, I'm going to refresh the voting results page and let's see if my vote is reflected. And it sure is. And that's it. I think that covers all of the basics. It's going to be a little different there on election day because, again, we're using the beta system and not the final system.
Some of the token names or such might have a different names and the addresses of course will be different but I think that covers pretty much all of the functionality that you can expect to have to use on election day. If you have any questions about how to vote that I didn't address, feel free to leave them in the comments below or tweet me @derosetech.
